Transgender attacked by unknown man in Mumbai residential complex | Mumbai News

A 34-year-old transgender man was attacked by an unidentified man over a minor dispute in a residential building in the western suburb of Andheri, police said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Monday evening in a residential area in Versova district, an official said.

The victim, a choreographer, lived alone in her apartment on the second floor of the building and had been experiencing frequent power outages in recent days, he said.

The official said the victim found out on Monday that some people in the building were tampering with the electricity meters on the ground floor by turning the power off and on again.

The victim took a video with her cellphone and filmed an unknown man turning off the electricity in her apartment, he said.

When he was confronted, the man verbally abused and hit the victim, the officer said. She was also attacked with a mop.

The victim suffered leg injuries and was treated at a city hospital, he said.

Based on a complaint, the police have initiated proceedings under sections 118 (2) (intentionally causing grievous bodily harm by dangerous weapon or means) and 352 (insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), he said.
