Suspect is detained – NBC New York

The NYPD has a suspect in custody who investigators believe is connected to the attack on a sunbather in Central Park, law enforcement sources told NBC New York.

Police have not disclosed where they found the suspect or whether he is considered a suspect in connection with the Central Park attack.

According to police, a 21-year-old woman was sunbathing in Manhattan Park around 1:30 p.m. on June 24 when she saw a man approach her and expose himself. She told police she was alone in the Great Hill area of ​​the park between West 104th Street and West Drive at the time.

She tried to run away, but he grabbed her from behind, police said. She screamed and managed to fight him off. He escaped, running south down West Drive.

The victim was taken to the hospital, police said. She was able to give authorities information about the suspect, they said.

The sketch originally obtained by NBC New York (below) shows a suspect in the case, believed to be in his 30s, wearing a baseball cap and a short beard. Police have not confirmed whether the person in question is the suspect in the case or if he matches the description and sketch.

The suspect was described as approximately 6′ tall, of medium build, with curly hair. He was last seen wearing a light colored shirt and shorts. He was last seen wearing a light colored shirt and shorts.

Police increased patrols in the park while searching for the suspect. Officers said they were checking for witnesses and outdoor cameras and using a drone to search the park.
