Accident on the Routh 1 bypass in Delco leaves three dead, authorities say – NBC10 Philadelphia

Three people were killed in a collision between a garbage truck and a public transit van on a busy road in Delaware County during rush hour Tuesday morning, police said.

A Delaware County official told NBC10 the accident occurred along the Route 1 Bypass in Upper Providence Township. The road between Routes 252 and 352 was closed to traffic starting at about 8:20 a.m. due to the incident, officials said.

Three people died in the crash, the official said. However, no further details about the victims have been released. Nor has it been announced whether anyone else was injured in the crash.

One of the vehicles appeared to have burned out while SkyForce10 hovered above it.

Authorities have not yet commented on when the incident occurred or what may have caused the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.

As of approximately 8:40 a.m., the northbound lanes were open, but the southbound lanes remained closed.
