Police say a drunk driver hit and killed a New Jersey bicyclist

A hit-and-run driver was drunk when he struck and killed a 68-year-old bicyclist in Egg Harbor Township earlier this year, authorities said.

Shawn P. Duffy, 39, of Egg Harbor Township, was charged with vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday.

Officials said Duffy struck Neil G. Burman on Steelmanville Road (Route 651) around 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 6. According to prosecutors, Duffy then drove away.

According to an online obituary, Burman, of Egg Harbor Township, was an avid cyclist. He was born in Somers Point and graduated from Ocean City High School.

Attorney information for Duffy was not immediately available.
