A man repeatedly sexually abused a teenage girl on her way home at London’s Euston station after offering her a cigarette.

Claudiu Rizea was sentenced to more than eight years in prison after attacking an 18-year-old woman at one of the capital’s central transport hubs.

Rizea was sentenced to eight years and three months in prison at Kingston Crown Court on Friday 28 June following an investigation by the British Transport Police.

The young victim was “deeply traumatized” by the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday morning.

Rizea, who was described as a “dangerous sex offender”, was placed on the sex offenders’ register for life.

Rizea, of Stanley Road, Harrow, was ordered to pay victim compensation of £228.

“Horrible and persistent sexual assault”

The court heard how the incident unfolded at Euston Station in the early hours of September 8, 2023.

Rizea first approached the woman in front of the train station under the pretext of offering her a cigarette.

But then he followed her to Westminster tube station before speaking to her again.

The perpetrator attempted to hug and kiss her before exposing himself to her as she reached Baker Street tube station.

The woman left, but Rizea dragged her out of the station and sexually abused her.

The frightened woman managed to escape and get back to the station, but Rizea followed her.

He kept approaching her, grabbing her arms and hair and trying again to drag her away.

The victim then managed to get to relative safety by locking himself in a cubicle in the station toilets.

When Rizea tried to get in, a railway employee prevented him from continuing his vicious attack.

But her nightmare was not over yet.

When the young woman returned to the platform, she saw Rizea coming towards her again.

She alerted the station staff, who called the police, who arrested Rizea.

Investigating officer DC Gemma Lee said: “Despite her repeated attempts to escape, Rizea was undeterred and determined to carry out his vile and sustained sexual assault and torment her further by following her throughout the city.”

“Rizea is a dangerous sex offender who, thanks to the courage of this young woman, is now behind bars where he belongs.”
