Tigers comment on analyst Craig Monroe’s absence following sexual harassment allegations

Disturbing allegations have been made against former major league player and current Tigers commentator Craig Monroe, prompting both the team and Bally Sports Detroit to keep him out of the booth, both confirmed in a joint statement Monday.

Monroe has been absent from the air since June 9, with the reason initially described as a “personal matter” last month.

But days later a post on Instagram and a separate post on X Last week, user carbarbie941 claimed that Monroe sexually abused her as early as age 12 and also accused the gamer-turned-sports reporter of turning her into a prostitute.

In a statement to Awful Announcement, the Tigers and Bally Sports Detroit confirmed that he was absent due to the allegations.

“Bally Sports Detroit and the Tigers are aware of the allegations on social media and take them seriously. As previously stated, Mr. Monroe was not on the broadcast schedule and will remain so indefinitely. We will have no further comment and all questions should be directed to Mr. Monroe,” a spokesperson for both organizations told the outlet.

At the time of this publication, Monroe has not yet publicly commented on these allegations.

In her social media posts, the unidentified woman claimed, among other things, that the abuse began when Monroe was 12 years old, when she was a minor league player living with her family in Charlotte County, Florida, and continued into adulthood.

She also claimed that Monroe forced her to perform sexual acts with friends and others, and also claimed that Monroe forced her to have sex with him in his house while his wife was upstairs.

In the post, the woman, identified by Fox 2 in Detroit only as 35-year-old Bree, said she had contacted both Bally Sports Detroit and the Tigers but had not received a response from either organization.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office told Fox 2 that the case is currently under investigation and urged anyone with information to come forward.

The plaintiff told the news agency that she waited to take action to protect her family and herself, even though she knew the allegations could lead to public backlash.
