1 man dead, child in critical condition after early morning fire in Largo

A man is dead and a child is in critical condition after a second-alarm fire in an apartment building in Prince George’s County, Maryland, Tuesday morning

The Prince George Fire Department said emergency crews arrived at the Northampton Apartment Homes in Largo on Harry S. Truman Drive after receiving a 911 call shortly after 3:45 a.m.

When emergency crews arrived on scene, flames could be seen coming from the roof of one of the apartment complexes.

Firefighters told WTOP that the fire started on the third floor of the apartment building and caused the roof to collapse. Crews were able to extinguish the fire shortly before 4:45 a.m.

A little boy was also rescued from the fire. His condition remains critical.

Damage was largely contained to the one apartment building, but officials told WTOP that the fire had partially spread to surrounding buildings.

A dog that was in the apartment during the fire was also rescued and resuscitated.

Fire investigators are on site. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
