Police arrest youth for raping three-year-old girl in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The airport police arrested a man in the state capital on Tuesday. He is accused of raping a three-year-old girl.

The accused has been identified as Santosh Khuntia. He works as a driver. The medical examination of the accused will be conducted at Capital Hospital and submitted to the court, police said.

It is alleged that the accused Santosh Khuntia raped the minor girl in an intoxicated state.

According to sources, the incident took place when the victim came to the accused Santosh’s house to play. Since no one was at Santosh’s house, Santosh took advantage of the opportunity and raped the minor girl.

Hospital officials said the victim came to the hospital last night for a medical examination and ultrasound scan.

Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said, “The victim’s family was frantically searching for her after she did not return home. Later, after rescuing the girl from the accused’s house, they filed a complaint with the airport police. Based on the complaint, a special team was formed to nab the accused. By the time the police raided his residence to nab him, the accused had already moved to Pipili. By the time he reached Puri, the accused had managed to flee from the crime scene.”

He further said, “We then launched a search operation and nabbed the accused within 24 hours. A forensic team has now secured all the evidence related to the rape incident.”
