14-year-old arrested in Kent for alleged escape and drunk driving

Kent Police have arrested a 14-year-old for attempting to elude police and driving under the influence of alcohol.

On Friday, June 28, Kent Police while on special patrol observed a car failing to stop at a stop sign on West Meeker Street.

When the officer stopped the car, he left the lane and drove through a red light.

With the police car’s blue lights and siren on, the teenager drove slowly on, hit a curb while turning and ran through another red light.

Because a tire was lost, the car came to a stop after hitting another curb.

The driver got out of the car and ran to a nearby apartment complex.

According to police, an officer said he saw the suspect running away with a gun in his hand.

The King County Sheriff’s Office Guardian 1 helicopter assisted in the search for the suspect. Guardian 1 soon spotted the teen jumping a fence and hiding in a resident’s backyard freezer.

For 20 minutes, officers on the ground and in the air demanded that the suspect surrender. The suspect slowly opened the refrigerator door after a Federal Way police canine team came to his aid.

According to police, the suspect ignored the police officers and curled up on the ground with his hands under his body.

After the suspect was arrested, a search warrant was issued for a blood test for drugs and alcohol.

The suspect was taken to the local hospital for a blood test and fingerprinting before being released to his parents.

The teenager may still face charges of drunk driving, fleeing, resisting arrest and obstructing justice.

Kent detectives are investigating.
