‘Permanently Disfigured’: Houston Man Charged With Practicing Dentistry Without a License, Botching Dental Veneer Procedure

HOUSTON – A Houston man is charged with practicing dentistry without a license after a Rhode Island man responded to an Instagram ad and ended up with a disaster in his mouth.

Jadan Miorke, 34, is currently wanted on felony charges while the victim continues to face serious complications.

“Your teeth… it’s your smile, it’s your face, it’s your look, it’s your identity,” victim Sheron Robinson told KPRC 2’s Bryce Newberry.

According to court documents, Robinson saw an ad on Instagram for Forever Veneers located near the Southwest Freeway. The ad offered 20 veneers for $8,700.

The Instagram account has over 54,000 followers and appears to feature many happy clients after their work is completed.

“It’s not a sincere reaction,” Robinson said. “They’re telling you to do this, smile like that, say that.”

He first traveled to Houston from Rhode Island in February for an appointment.

“They seemed legitimate. You had to understand that this was a process that…the average person doesn’t know what to expect,” Robinson said.

He noticed a nice, clean office and people wearing uniforms during his visit, which took place after a Zoom meeting.

During a visit to Houston on Feb. 22, he went to a Bellaire dental office, Truth Dental, for cleaning before returning to Forever Veneers for the 3D scan performed by Miorke, records show.

Robinson returned to Houston for a final appointment on March 13, where Miorke reportedly used dental power tools to grind down the surfaces of his teeth so the veneers could adhere to his natural teeth.

The meeting did not start until 9 p.m., documents show. All travel expenses were paid out of pocket, he said.

Once the teeth were ground down, Miorke applied glue to Robinson’s teeth and placed the veneers on top, documents show. Robinson told authorities that Miorke was the only one in the room during the entire process.

“Right after the installation, I felt a strange sensation in my mouth,” Robinson said. “I couldn’t eat properly. It was weird.”

Robinson told Houston police that his back molars did not touch, causing a noticeable gap, records show. The gap between his upper and lower molars made it difficult for him to chew his food and caused his other teeth to be out of joint.

“I have my pockets open, so the food goes in,” he said. “One of them even came loose.”

When Robinson informed Miorke of the problems, he allegedly told him he had to return to Houston and would not provide him with a refund.

“They were not at all willing to compromise on that,” Robinson said.

Robinson told Miorke he would have to take the matter to the authorities, at which point he called the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners and found out Miorke was unlicensed.

Robinson told authorities his teeth were “permanently disfigured” from the procedure.

KPRC 2 stopped by the eighth-floor office Monday, but no one answered the door and the lights inside were out.

“There are a lot more variables than just appearance that you need to be aware of and pay attention to,” said Dr. Austin Faulk of Montrose DDS.

Dental veneers typically cost more than $1,000 per tooth, he said, raising questions about where the materials come from.

Potential long-term effects of botched dental veneers include:

  • Jaw joint pain

  • Caries

  • Gum health

  • Tooth loss

“There’s a tendency to equate cosmetic procedures with a manicure. And that’s not the case here,” Faulk said. “It usually ends up costing a lot more than doing it right the first time.”

Robinson is now trying to find the money to visit his dentist in Rhode Island to give him back the smile he had hoped for after learning the veneers will have to be removed.

“They took advantage of every single person who sat in that chair,” he said. “I’ll leave it up to God to decide what he deserves, but I know they did me wrong.”
