Louisiana man sentenced to 50 years of castration for raping 14-year-old girl

Glenn Sullivan, Sr., 54, pleaded guilty to repeatedly raping and impregnating a teenage girl, according to prosecutors

A Louisiana man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison and physical castration after pleading guilty to raping a 14-year-old girl, District Attorney Scott Perrilloux announced.

On April 17, Glenn Sullivan Sr., 54, of Springfield, pleaded guilty to four counts of second-degree rape.

On Monday, Judge William Dykes sentenced Sullivan to 50 years in prison and ordered his castration, which was part of his agreement with the prosecution, Perrilloux said in the statement.

“I would like to say that three people have been ordered chemically castrated, but to my knowledge this is the first order for physical castration,” said Assistant District Attorney Brad Cascio, who prosecuted the case, according to WBRZ.

“I felt this case was strong enough to warrant such action,” Cascio said in the statement.

He later added, “Sex crimes against minors are the most vicious crimes we prosecute. I intend to use every tool the legislature provides us with, including castration, to seek justice for the children in our community.”

In July 2022, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation after a young woman told investigators that Sullivan had raped her multiple times when she was 14, the statement said. The young teenager later became pregnant, “and a DNA test ordered during the course of the criminal investigation proved that Sullivan had impregnated her,” the statement said.

Investigators also found that Sullivan manipulated the victim and threatened her and her family with violence to prevent her from revealing the rapes, the statement said.

Men who are court-ordered to be castrated can choose between chemical castration or surgical removal of their testicles, which is what Sullivan chose, WBRZ reports.

Perrilloux praised LPSO Detective Ryan Bernard, Cascio and the young victim for filing a report.

“Many cases of this kind are not reported out of fear,” he said. “It is truly unbelievable how much strength this young woman had to muster to tell the truth in the face of threats and adversity.”
