The Grateful Dead Blocked From Another No. 1 by Taylor Swift

The Grateful Dead are back on the charts this week with another of their live recordings. The group has built an incredible business releasing new live albums from their past every few months, and all of them become sales successes. In this context, the band almost secured another No. 1 position billboard chart they dominated in the past… but they were blocked by the biggest name in the business.

Dave’s Picks Vol. 50: Palladium, New York City, NY 05/03/77 debuts on four billboard Charts this week. It’s a quick winner thanks to its good sales total, which was almost enough to push it to the top of a list.

The Grateful Dead’s latest release lands at No. 2 on the top album sales charts. Only the best-selling titles in the country are taken into account in this balance sheet. The Billboard 200, the most-watched album chart in the US, also includes streaming activity.

Dave’s Picks Vol. 50 According to Luminate, the album ranks second on the top album sales list with 20,390 copies sold. The set was not made available for streaming or otherwise consumed, so each unit moved came solely from purchases.

While it may have seemed that The Grateful Dead were on the verge of reaching No. 1 on the Top Album Sales list – and they were, judging only by chart positions – the race was actually not very close . Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department stays on top for a second frame. This title sold a further 106,982 copies – more than five times what the jam rockers managed.

Dave’s Picks Vol. 50 It almost became the Grateful Dead’s third No. 1 on the top album sales list. That’s a relatively low sum for a group that has broken into the top league with as many projects as it has over the years. They’ve now achieved 40 top 10 finishes in this one ranking, and this latest offering has helped them reach that milestone.

In addition to the top album sales list, the Grateful Dead’s new live set also debuts on three other albums this week. The track debuts at No. 32 on the Billboard 200. It also debuts at No. 7 on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart and No. 6 on the Top Rock Albums chart.
