Jesus statue beheaded in ‘disturbing attack’ outside Queens church – NBC New York

According to the Diocese of Brooklyn, a statue of baby Jesus in front of a church in Queens was damaged and decapitated on Sunday.

Surveillance video shows a person parking an SUV across the street from the church, then walking directly toward the statue and removing the head of Jesus, which was found on the ground nearby, the diocese said.

The vandalism occurred around 5:30 a.m. Sunday at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Flushing, the church said. The NYPD confirmed it received a report Sunday of a statue that was intentionally damaged after a person repeatedly struck it with a shoe.

According to the church, the statue of the baby Jesus stands next to the statues of Mary and Joseph, which
“unsuccessfully attacked and not damaged.” The statues have been part of the community for over 40 years.

According to police, no arrests have been made in this case and the investigation is ongoing. The NYPD Hate Crime Task Force has been notified.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the NYPD at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
