Illegal immigrant accused of raping disabled teenager released on $500 bail

An illegal immigrant accused of raping a 15-year-old disabled girl in Massachusetts has been released on $500 bail.

Cory Alvarez, a 26-year-old Haitian national, is accused of luring and attacking the disabled teenager at a Comfort Inn in Rockland, Massachusetts, which is used to house illegal immigrants, a report said, citing court documents.

The incident was reported on March 13, and the alleged victim, who is also a Haitian citizen, reported Alvarez to Rockland police officers, the report states.

She told authorities that she was taken to Alvarez’s room and attacked, but Alvarez, who agreed to be interviewed, said he was with the girl and tried to fix her iPad.

Alvarez denied the allegations of sexual misconduct, and Department of Children and Families documents reported that the teenager did not suffer any “physical injuries.”

After his arrest in March, prosecutors had requested that Alvarez be held in custody pending trial or that bail be set at $25,000. However, a Massachusetts judge set bail at $500 last week, according to the report.

Conditions imposed by the judge include wearing a GPS monitoring device, being confined to a Brockton address, having no contact with the alleged victim, checking in and surrendering travel documents.

Alvarez pleaded not guilty and is expected back in court on August 13.

In March, federal immigration authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Alvarez through the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, but Plymouth Superior Court officials refused to act on the warrant, the report said.
