Felix Sandström leaves Flyers organization, heads to Buffalo

Free Agency Day 2024 turned out to be just as crazy as the 2024 NHL Draft.

The Buffalo Sabres are gaining depth at goaltender with the addition of Felix Sandstrom.

Sandström began his career when he was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft in the third round, 70th overall. During the 2019–20 season, Sandström played the majority of the season in the ECHL with the Reading Royals. He posted a 13–11–1 record with a 3.27 goals-against average and a .885 save percentage. When teams returned to play for the 2020–21 season, Sandström played 11 games in the AHL and posted a 5–3–4 record with a 3.19 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage.

The 2021-22 season proved to be one where Sandström shined in the AHL with playing time. He played a total of 44 games and posted a 16-18-6 record. He posted a 2.89 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage. Sandström also played five games for the Flyers and posted a 0-4-1 record with a 3.23 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage that year.

During the 2022-23 season, Sandström played in seven AHL games and posted a 2.39 goals-against average and .911 save percentage after posting a 4-1-2 record. He played in 20 games with the Flyers during the season and posted a 3-12-3 record after posting a 3.87 goals-against average and .880 save percentage.

Last season, Sandstrom played a total of 24 games for the AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley Phantoms and posted a 3.15 goals-against average and .884 save percentage after going 13-7-3. He played five games for the Flyers and went 1-2-0. He posted a 3.87 goals-against average and .823 save percentage in those games.
