Patelco Credit Union’s online banking down after security incident

Electronic transactions such as wire transfers, direct deposits and payments are currently unavailable and it is unclear when they may be restored.

DUBLIN, Calif. – Many Patelco Credit Union customers woke up Monday to find they were unable to make their rent or mortgage payments following a “major security incident” over the weekend.

In a statement posted on its social media channels, the credit union said it had asked it to shut down some everyday banking systems, including online banking and the mobile app.

Electronic transactions such as transfers, direct deposits and payments are therefore not possible. Debit and credit card transactions are only taking place to a limited extent, says Patelco.

Cash withdrawals and deposits are still available at Patelco ATMs and branch ATMs.

Patelco branches and the call center are currently open, but long wait times are to be expected.

“We will answer your questions as best we can, but we cannot provide you with specific information about your accounts at this time,” they wrote.

Not much is known about the “serious security incident” and its extent.

Patelco is one of the oldest and largest credit unions in the United States, with several dozen branches in the Bay Area and Sacramento. The cooperative is headquartered in Dublin.

Customers can contact Patelco in a variety of ways, including by phone at (800) 358-8228. The nearest branch offices can be found HERE.
