Woman found dead in New Jersey home was killed by someone, police say

An 80-year-old woman who was found dead in her Perth Amboy home on Sunday was the victim of a homicide, officials said.

Awilda Verrette was found by a relative in her State Street apartment around 1:15 p.m., the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said her death was a random act of violence and there was no danger to the public.
