Man arrested in Longmont for sexually abusing Boulder child

A man was arrested by Longmont police for sexually abusing a Boulder child.

Mitchal Phillips, 28, is charged with sexual abuse of a child – position of trust. He is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear for his hearing today. Bail has not yet been set. A booking photo was not immediately available.

According to an affidavit, two children from Boulder were at a pajama party in Longmont at 1 a.m. on June 30 when Philips woke a child from her room and took her to the couch in the living room. Philips reportedly removed the child’s clothing and touched her. He later told the child, “Keep this our little secret.” Two hours later, Philips reportedly returned and again attempted to touch a child, to which the child denied him.

Later that morning, the child reported the assault and Phillips was contacted by police at his workplace at Longs Peak Hospital. During an initial investigation, police found that Phillips apologized for the assault in a text message and reportedly admitted that he was with a child at 1 a.m. and told the child to keep the incident a secret, the affidavit states.

According to the police report, Phillips wanted to teach the victim what to do in the event of a sexual assault.

According to the affidavit, Phillips is a registered sex offender with a prior conviction for first-degree sexual assault. Police found that Phillips has several other open cases with similar circumstances. According to court records, there is currently one case under the name of Mitchal Phillips in Colorado, and that is this case.
