Authorities allege Harrell entered Elite Fuel at Elk Run Road and Independence Avenue wearing a mask around 9:23 pm Saturday. He grabbed money from the register and drove off in a silver Chevrolet Equinox.

On Sunday morning, Clinton County sheriff’s deputies spotted the vehicle in the community of Goose Lake and initiated a traffic stop. Officers searched the vehicle and found a loaded .357-caliber Colt revolver in a clothing hamper. Harrell was initially detained on a firearm charge.

Harrell is a registered sex offender because of a 2019 sex abuse conviction from another state involving a child, according to court records.
