Washback Whiskey Wows Atlanta Spirits Lovers

Whiskey Washback, a traveling whiskey and food festival presented by Bottle Raiders, dazzled Atlanta on June 14. Some of the hottest brands from around the world set up shop and served up the lucky attendees who got to sample rare offerings like Michter’s 10-Year-Old Bourbon, Bardstown Amrut and many other exciting wines.

No whiskey event would be complete without delicious food and star chefs from the Atlanta culinary scene, such as Hartley’s Kitchen, Don Carne Tacos and more, made appearances. Guests could support local Atlanta artisans and purchase gifts from BRASH Coffee, BM Franklin and Co, Smoke & Serve and West & Peak. Michter’s was the first American whiskey to earn the coveted title of Drinks International’s World’s Most Admired Whiskey in 2023. The brand is known for its core expressions: US1 American Whiskey, US1 Bourbon and US1 Rye. In May, the brand released its 10 Year Rye, an expression that was poured into VIP time.

Widow Jane

This independent New York whiskey brand relies on limestone water from the Rosendale Mines in upstate New York. The limestone water in these spirits is the brand’s calling card, as it has a unique smoothness, and Widow Jane considers it a unique “fingerprint” for its whiskeys.

Bardstown Bourbon Company

Bardstown Bourbon Company is arguably one of the most forward-thinking whiskey brands out there. In October, the brand opened a state-of-the-art “Whiskey House” in Kentucky, designed to focus on high-volume whiskey production. Aside from the fact that this brand is making waves commercially, its bourbons are seriously good. The brand’s whiskeys, particularly those in its Discovery Series, are some of the highest-rated bourbons we’ve tasted at Bottle Raiders, and you can read our review of the 11th release here.

Green River Whiskey

One of the best values ​​on the market is Green River Whiskey. Technically, this brand is the 10th oldest distillery in Kentucky, with roots dating back to 1885. While Green River has faded a bit, the brand is back in the game and continues to unveil one incredible release after another.

Virginia Distillery

Virginia Distillery specializes in the very trendy category of American Single Malts. VA Distillery often experiments with its cask finishes after distilling its whiskeys in Scottish copper stills. Previous releases include Cider Cask Reserve, Port Cask Reserve and Cabernet Cask Reserve.

Four roses

A brand like Four Roses needs no introduction. The brand’s Bourbon, Small Batch, Single Barrel and Small Batch Select are iconic must-haves. The brand’s 135th Anniversary Limited Edition Small Batch 2023 featured a 25-year-old bourbon in the blend and received a 9/10 at Bottle Raiders. You can read our review here.

Chicken Rooster

Chicken Cock is another historic brand with origins dating back to 1856. During Prohibition, the brand was a staple in speakeasies like The Cotton Club, and it was transported across the Canadian border by bootleggers in Cans. The brand is known for its bourbon, rye, Kentucky double oak whiskey and small batch bourbon.

Own number 12

Proper No. 12 hails from Ireland and is the brainchild of none other than MMA celebrity Conor McGregor. When it comes to categories, Irish whiskey is hot, with Straits Research reporting that it’s expected to reach a value of $11.6 million and that brands like McGregor’s Proper No. 12 are leading the charge.

Wyoming Whiskey

Founded by Wyoming natives Brad and Kate Mead, Wyoming Whiskey sources its ingredients from the Big Horn Basin. The whiskey brand offers a National Park Series, and each release pays homage to America’s parks, with proceeds going toward preserving them.

Hooten Young

Hooten Young is a whiskey brand founded by Norm Hooten and Tim Young, a member of the Special Mission Resolve Unit (MSG RET). The whiskey and cigar brand pays tribute to military personnel around the world. The brand is known for experimenting with different wine barrel finishes.

Milam & Greene

The star of this Texas whiskey brand Milam & Greene is on a meteoric rise. Led by the gifted Heather Greene, CEO and master blender. The brand is known for experimenting with climate and its effects on whiskey aging. For its Wildlife series, Milam & Greene exposed aging bourbons to extreme temperature fluctuations – the results are nothing short of breathtaking.

Bourbon Blue Note

Blue Note Bourbon is originally from Tennessee and the brand is the oldest licensed distillery in Memphis. Blue Note says its warehouse has its microclimate because of its proximity to the Mississippi River. The brand has a diverse portfolio consisting of limited releases and its flagship product, Juke Joint Bourbon.

Limestone farms

Limestone Farms is located in Georgetown, Kentucky and pays homage to limestone, a vital component of the bourbon-making process. The facility is located on the fifth-generation Morgan family farm. The young brand is currently building a distillery on the property and the brand places a strong emphasis on quality over quantity in the production process.

SOME Spirits

FEW Spirits is a grain-to-glass distillery based in Evanston, Illinois. This under-the-radar sleeper produces bourbon, rye, American whiskey, single malts and more. FEW Spirits was selected by renowned bottler Lost Lantern to be part of its series celebrating the vibrant Midwest region.

Bush mills

Bushmills Irish Whiskey Distillery is the oldest licensed distillery in the world. The company was granted its distilling license in 1608. What a story! This historic brand has a substantial product portfolio and is no stranger to experimenting with different cask finishes. In April, the brand released a whisky aged in Malaga wine casks.
