India News | Man sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping minor

Gonda (UP), July 1 (PTI) – A court in Gonda district on Monday sentenced a man to 20 years in prison after finding him guilty of kidnapping and raping a minor girl about two and a half years ago.

Additional District and Sessions Judge (POCSO Court) Rajesh Narayan Mani Tripathi convicted the accused Ajay alias Kallu Kori after examining the evidence, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Vineet Jaiswal.

The court sentenced Kori to 20 years in prison and a fine of Rs 34,000.

Giving details of the incident, the SP said that a person had filed an FIR with the Mankapur police station of the district stating that Kori lured and kidnapped his 16-year-old daughter on February 18, 2022.

After rescuing the girl, the investigator took her written statement and conducted a medical examination, which confirmed that she had been raped.

The SP said the court had ordered that the convict must receive an additional penalty if he could not pay the fine.
