After much coaxing, the girl admitted that her neighbour in Ludhiana had raped her in December 2023. The girl said the accused entered her house when she was alone, raped her and then threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident.

The girl and her mother had gone to Dehradun for summer vacation on May 14.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sukhjinder Singh, who is investigating the case, said that no FIR was registered at Patel Nagar police station in Dehradun and it was later transferred to Ludhiana police for further action.

He added that the FIR was registered on June 30 under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and under Sections 3, 4, 5J (2) and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused is being hunted.
