Breaking news: UEFA confirms investigation of Jude Bellingham into controversial incident in England

UEFA has confirmed that an investigation has been launched into Jude Bellingham’s conduct following his late equaliser for England against Slovakia on Sunday. The Real Madrid midfielder appeared to make a gesture towards Slovakian fans following his late overhead kick.

A statement from a UEFA spokesperson said: “A UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector will open a disciplinary investigation into a possible breach of the basic rules of good conduct by English Football Association player Jude Bellingham, which is alleged to have occurred in the context of this match.”

“Information on this matter will be made available in due course.”

Bellingham responded to the allegations shortly after the game, writing on Twitter/X: “An inside gesture to some close friends who were at the game. Nothing but respect for the performance of the Slovakian team tonight.”

The 21-year-old, who celebrated his birthday just last week, saved England from a humiliation in the round of 16. His goal 90 seconds from time sent the game into extra time after the Three Lions were already heading for an early exit.

Gareth Southgate’s side fell behind in the first half, continuing a trend of sluggish performances so far in Germany, but Bellingham, who had struggled for much of the match, emerged as the hero, forcing the tie into 30 minutes of extra time.
