Tupelo man arrested for shooting at motor vehicle

On June 25, Tupelo Police responded to a report of a vehicle-involved shooting near the South Thomas Street exit on Highway 6.

The victim stated he was traveling westbound on Highway 6 when a white Dodge Challenger began to overtake in the left lane.

As the vehicle passed, a man leaned out the passenger window and fired two shots, hitting the front tire on the driver’s side of the victim’s car.

About an hour later, a Tupelo police officer observed a vehicle matching the suspect’s description committing a traffic violation on West Jackson Street. The officer stopped the car, driven by 26-year-old Keshon Heard of Tupelo. A search uncovered narcotics and a firearm. Heard was initially arrested for traffic violations and minor possession of narcotics.

After further investigation, Heard was charged with shooting at a motor vehicle on June 27. Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Allen ordered Heard held in custody on $50,000 bail.

The investigation is ongoing and more arrests may follow. The victim and Heard were acquaintances and the shooting occurred after a previous altercation. The indictment will be presented to the Lee County Grand Jury.
