Recap of a busy weekend for the Atlanta Hawks

The offseason has just started and the Hawks already look like a very different team, so let’s recap all of their moves so far.

After speculation that Atlanta could end up taking Donovan Clingan or Alex Sarr, the club is taking 19-year-old French winger Zaccharie Risacher with the No. 1 overall pick.

The club began the second round by sending a former first-round pick to the Rockets for Houston’s 44th overall pick. The 2022 first-round pick got off to a slow start but eventually showed off his shooting skills, flirting with a 50/40/90 split at one point. Griffin ultimately fell out of favor in Atlanta for reasons that are still unclear to Hawks fans.

Hawks trade No. 44 pick for Nikola Durisic

Following the deal that sent Griffin to Houston, Landry Fields acquired the rights to No. 43 overall pick Nikola Durisis in exchange for the No. 44 pick and cash considerations to the Heat. Durisic is a 6-foot-7 Serbian wing who can create his own shot but still has some development to do at the next level.

Outside of the first overall pick, the Hawks’ decision to trade Dejounte Murray or Trae Young was the biggest domino of Atlanta’s offseason. Landry Fields made a deal that ended up bringing back Larry Nance Jr., Dyson Daniels, a 2025 first-round pick (via the Lakers) and a 2027 first-round pick (the least favorable of the Bucks-Pelicans).

Hawks allow Saddiq Bey to test free agency

The Hawks declined to extend a qualifying offer to Saddiq Bey, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent. Bey is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in March and is expected to miss part of the regular season.

Hawks exercise team option on Garrison Matthews

The Hawks exercised the $2.23 million team option on Garrison Matthews, who shot a career-high 44 percent from three-point range in 66 games for Atlanta last season.
