News Flash • Frederick Police announces open applications for

The Frederick Police Department is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 28. Citizens Police Academy. This seven-week course is designed to give participants a comprehensive understanding of the functions and procedures of the Frederick Police Department.

The Citizens Police Academy offers instruction in various aspects of modern law enforcement, including uniformed patrol, criminal investigation, undercover operations, tactical operations and more. Participants participate in interactive and hands-on sections such as demonstrations of defensive tactics and field sobriety tests.

This academy is free to attend and is open to all residents of the City of Frederick and those with business interests in the city who are at least 18 years old. Applicants must have no serious criminal record, as all participants will be subject to a background check. The Frederick Police Department will select 25 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

The academy runs from 5 September 2024 to 17 October 2024with meetings held every Thursday evening from approximately 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Interested candidates should submit their application (scanned and emailed) to Cpl. Shannon Stream no later than August 24, 2024.

Disclaimer: Upon completion of the program, participants will not be sworn police officers nor will they be expected to perform any police duties. However, they will have a better understanding of the Frederick Police Department and how we can work together to make the City of Frederick a better community for everyone.
