3 dead, 2 injured after mass shooting near UC campus – WHIO TV 7 and WHIO Radio

CINCINNATI — UPDATE @ 9:25 am

Three people were killed and two others injured in a shooting near the University of Cincinnati campus early Monday morning.

UC Public Safety issued an emergency alert via social media at 2:54 a.m. saying officers responded to a reported emergency on Highland Avenue and E University Avenue.

According to our Cincinnati news partner WCPO, the shooting occurred in the 300 block of East University Avenue, near the UC campus.

Police told media in Cincinnati that a total of five people were shot. The coroner confirmed that three people died.

Two people suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Captain Mark Burns told WCPO that a person at the scene ran into a home with a gun and a brief standoff ensued. The two were later arrested, but Burns said police are unsure if that person was the shooter.

UC Public Safety gave the all-clear at 3:51 a.m. on its X account (formerly Twitter).

The shooting remains under investigation.
