Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has posted a video on social media platform X commenting on the recent violent protests in Eldoret that resulted in significant property damage and looting.

In the video, Sudi expressed his disappointment over the matter, particularly referring to the involvement of people from the Kalenjin community.

“I want to say two or three things to the Kalenjin people. First, since I was born, I have known about construction projects – be it a classroom, a church or a shop. I have never thought of destroying someone else’s property. What happened yesterday; the destruction of properties, including a county court, and the looting of Timba, was shameful,” Sudi said.

He apologized, saying: “I am sorry to everyone, especially because those who led the destruction were Kalenjin. God does not sleep.”

Sudi is known for his philanthropic work and particularly emphasized his commitment to the poor and orphans as well as his experience in building churches and initiating various projects.

“My duty is to assist the poor and orphans; I have built churches and initiated several projects,” he said.

He acknowledged that the organizers and leaders of the acts of destruction were Kalenjin, adding: “I am not saying anything bad, but since a war has broken out, I have suspended all planned activities until further notice.”

The protests, which began as a peaceful demonstration by Generation Z, escalated into chaos and resulted in vandalism and looting of Timber XO, a multimillion-shilling club owned by Sudi in the town of Eldoret.

Protesters were seen stealing alcohol and destroying the building’s glass walls, windows and doors.

The violence also spread to public property; the District Court and the Enforcement Offices in Eldoret were set on fire, including several vehicles.

In the caption of his video, Sudi lamented the events: “What happened on Tuesday after an otherwise peaceful protest by Generation Z is regrettable. However, the scale of the loss of life, looting and damage to property is horrific and contrary to the spirit of our Constitution.”

He added: “I have never organized or harbored any ill will towards my political rivals and it is shocking that they took advantage of innocent youth and turned a peaceful protest into chaos. After the chaos, I immediately stopped all my political activities and am defenseless when it comes to protecting all my property.”
