Driver killed in towing accident in Quitman

HOUSTON (KIAH) – A fatal crash involving a tow truck and a Chevy Cruze resulted in several lanes on the road being closed. The Houston Police Department (HPD) and Houston Fire Department responded to the call in Quitman near Highway 45 around 11:30 p.m.

The driver of the tow truck was uninjured, but the driver of the Chevy Cruze was taken to the hospital where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Chevy Cruze is believed to have been impaired. Preliminary reports indicate that the driver of the Chevy Cruze crossed multiple lanes and struck a median barrier before being struck by the tow truck.

During the initial investigation, another drunk driver collided with an HPD patrol car blocking the eastbound ramp onto northbound 45. No other injuries were reported and the drunk driver was arrested.

The roads were reopened around 4 a.m.
