News from Uttar Pradesh: In a shocking incident, unidentified gunmen opened fire at the house of a Samajwadi Party leader in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, injuring six people, including a six-year-old child. Assailants opened fire at the residence of former municipal councillor Vijay Yadav in Dashashwamedh district on Sunday, injuring six people, police said.

In his complaint, Yadav alleged that the attackers wanted to kill his entire family, police said, adding that an FIR has been filed against accused Ankit Yadav, Shobhit Verma, Govind Yadav, Sahil Yadav and other unidentified persons in connection with the attack.

The injured include Kiran Yadav, Umesh Yadav, Dinesh Yadav, Shubham alias Golu and six-year-old Nirbhay Yadav, it said.

The injured are currently being treated in hospital and are in a stable condition, police added.

Meanwhile, a senior officer said that Dashashwamedh Police Station Superintendent (SI) Rakesh Pal was suspended following the incident on the instructions of Police Commissioner Mohit Agarwal.

“Efforts are on to nab the accused and action will be taken against them under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act and the National Security Act,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pramod Kumar.

Further investigations into the case are underway, the DCP said.
