An officer was reportedly arrested during a raid on Ioannina prison

An officer was arrested as part of an ongoing operation by the Internal Affairs Department of the Greek Police (ELAS) in a prison in northwestern Greece to combat corruption within the police, state broadcaster ERT reported on Monday.

The raid involves members of the EKAM anti-terror unit from Thessaloniki, riot police, a prosecutor and officials investigating the case.

According to the report, a prison officer is among those under investigation at Stavraki Pre-trial Detention Center.

Since the raid caused unrest in the prison, the police asked the fire department for assistance.
