Person trapped under SUV pronounced dead after crash in Columbus, Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – One person is dead after their vehicle crashed at a freeway exit in downtown Columbus late Sunday night.

According to the Columbus Police Department Accident Investigation Unit, an adult was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer on the westbound ramp from I-70 to I-71 North when the vehicle drifted onto the left side of the road and struck the median wall.

According to police, the force of the impact caused the Chevrolet to roll over and land on its driver’s side. The SUV slid back over the ramp onto the right side of the road and struck a curb before coming to a stop.

Columbus EMS arrived at around 10:20 p.m. and found the driver trapped under the SUV. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident resulted in the exit ramp being closed for several hours while the AIU continued its ongoing investigation.
