Residents urged to avoid large wildfire near County Road 227

A large wildfire has broken out near County Road 227 and County Road 208 in Brazoria County, about an hour south of Houston, according to area officials.

Residents should avoid the area as the fire was uncontrolled and 0% contained as of 8:45 p.m. Sunday, according to Brazoria County Fire Marshal Martin Vela. There is no immediate threat to anyone’s home or livestock, and no injuries have been reported, Vela said.

The fire, estimated at about 300 acres, was reported to authorities around 3 p.m. Sunday, Vela said. It was burning entirely on Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge property, Vela said.

Crews from the Fire Marshal’s Office, Brazoria County Fire Department and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service were on scene responding to the fire, according to a Facebook post from the Fire Marshal’s Office.
