Detectives investigate fatal shooting with one dead and one injured

Mason Police District Detectives are investigating a fatal shooting in Annandale that left one teen dead and another injured.

On June 28 at 11:18 p.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 4100 block of Wadsworth Court in Annandale. When officers arrived, they found two male juvenile victims. A 16-year-old juvenile sustained a gunshot wound to the lower torso and a 14-year-old juvenile sustained a gunshot wound to the upper torso. Officers rendered aid and both victims were transported to the hospital. Despite life-saving measures, the 14-year-old juvenile succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The 16-year-old victim remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle before officers arrived.

Investigators are currently assuming that the victims were traveling together in the area. A vehicle approached the victims and the suspects in the vehicle began shooting at the victims. Investigators do not believe that this was a random act.

Detectives are still investigating the circumstances leading to the shooting and are asking the public to view any home surveillance camera footage in the area to assist in the investigation.
