The following is a press release from the Idaho State Police.

Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal three-vehicle crash that occurred in Boundary County shortly before 4:57 p.m. Saturday.

The accident occurred on US Highway 95 near mile marker 497, near Naples. A commercial vehicle driven by a 24-year-old man from Surrey, BC, Canada, was traveling north on US Highway 95 with a red 2023 Freightliner and a refrigerated trailer.

The driver of the semi-trailer lost control when he suddenly had to brake to avoid stationary vehicles. The semi-trailer skidded onto the southbound lane and collided head-on with two cars.

The second vehicle hit was a white 2011 Kia Sorento driven by a 33-year-old man from Athol. He suffered minor injuries and was rescued at the scene. The professional driver was uninjured. All those involved were wearing seat belts.

The highway was completely closed for almost five hours. Relatives were notified. The accident is still being investigated by the Idaho State Police.
