18-year-old dies during car repairs after jack collapses, police say

UNDERHILL, Vermont (WCAX/Gray News) – Police say an 18-year-old man who was stuck under a car in a Vermont high school parking lot was working on his car when the jack collapsed.

Vermont State Police were called to Mount Mansfield Union High School in Jericho around 4 p.m. Thursday because a person appeared to be trapped under a vehicle in the parking lot, WCAX reports.

Officers immediately began assisting an 18-year-old man named Silas Salyer of Underhill. Salyer was taken to a hospital in Burlington, where he later died, according to police.

According to police, Salyer was working on his car in the high school parking lot when the jack supporting the vehicle collapsed.

According to investigators, the death is not considered suspicious.
