Valley mother killed in shooting outside Phoenix club

Phoenix police said the suspect turned herself in hours after the fatal shooting.

PHOENIX – A family is remembering a Valley mother who was killed in a shooting outside a Phoenix club.

Phoenix police said a woman was killed by multiple gunshots near 31st Avenue and Indian School Road on Saturday morning.

According to the family, the victim is 29-year-old Ta’Janae Carter.

“She had the biggest heart and I will miss that about her,” said Shant Cunningham, Carter’s sister.

Cunningham said her sister cooks the best food and tells the funniest jokes, but most of all, takes care of her family.

“She was the best mother and no one can take that away from her,” Cunningham said.

Cunningham said Carter also enjoyed going out with her friends, which she did the night she died.

“She was just outside having fun. Then an argument broke out and escalated,” Cunningham said.

Phoenix police said the suspect, 24-year-old Teayanna Minter, turned herself in hours after the shooting and now faces a murder charge.

Detectives are still investigating what led to the shooting.

The family told 12News that Carter and Minter did not know each other.

“She was a fighter until her last breath and I admire her for that like she was my baby,” Cunningham said.

Carter’s family said they are trying to find a way without her, but want everyone to remember her laughter and her ability to make others laugh, too.

“Everyone here loves her. She was a very sweet person and very easy to love,” Cunningham said.

Carter’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for funeral expenses. Anyone wishing to donate can click here.
