Emergency alert due to possible breach of Lake Livingston Dam

The Trinity River Authority said it expected more details about the spill on Monday.

LIVINGSTON, Texas – Authorities continue to monitor Lake Livingston Dam after heavy rains and flooding impacted the dam’s drainage area.

Trinity River Authority officials said the dam’s drainage system was at risk, so they issued a “potential failure alert,” meaning officials would monitor and assess the integrity of the spillway and take repairs or other actions as needed.

They said there was no immediate danger of failure, but the possibility was there.

“Day-to-day operations of the dam will continue as required, although normal lock operations may vary depending on conditions,” river authority officials said in a press release.

KHOU 11 News spoke with some residents in the area who said they were not concerned about the release. The TRA says it has received calls from residents seeking information about the dam.
