Suspect arrested for shooting fast food worker

Suspect arrested after employee shot at Taco Bell in Summerville, South Carolina, police say

THIS IS WYFF NEWS 4 TODAY. THE PARIS OLYMPICS ARE LESS THAN A MONTH AWAY AND U.S. ATHLETES ARE STILL FIGHTING FOR A SPOT AND A BLACK PRIDE FESTIVAL HAS TURNED FROM A CELEBRATION TO A PROTEST. WHAT LEAD TO THIS? GOOD MORNING. I’M PEYTON FURTADO. THANKS FOR BEING HERE WITH US ON YOUR SUNDAY MORNING. WE’RE TAKING A LOOK AT THE WEATHER YOU CAN EXPECT TODAY. THIS IS A LIVE VIEW FROM OUR HILTON GREENVILLE SKYCAM. GORGEOUS SKYLINE, 25 DEGREES. A BEAUTIFUL DAY AHEAD. BUT THE TEMPERATURE IS NOT GOING TO STAY THAT WAY. WE HAVE SYDNEY SULLIVAN IN THE STUDIO TO TELL US A LITTLE MORE ABOUT IT. SYDNEY, HOW SHOULD WE DRESS? WHAT CAN WE EXPECT? YES, I SAY WHEN YOU GRAB THE FIRST CUP OF COFFEE, I LOVE A GOOD WARM CUP OF COFFEE. BUT TODAY IT MAY BE A MORNING CUP OF ICED COFFEE BECAUSE OUR TEMPERATURES ARE ALREADY THROUGH THE ROOF. WE’RE TALKING ABOUT TEMPERATURES OF EXACTLY 77 DEGREES IN GREENVILLE, AS WELL AS 73 DEGREES IN ANDERSON AND SPARTANBURG, AND 72 DEGREES IN ASHEVILLE AND 72 DEGREES IN FRANKLIN. OUR FRIENDS DOWN IN ABBEVILLE, 76 DEGREES, AS WELL AS IN UNION. SO ALREADY A VERY MILD START. AND THAT’S NOT EVEN FOR THE HUMIDITY. It feels very muggy outside and will stay that way for the rest of the day. The good news is that it won’t stay that way for much longer. There will be some relief in sight. And that also brings the possibility for isolated showers. For now, though, it’s nice and dry. Note that we have a line of showers and thunderstorms in the Northwest associated with a pretty robust cold front. This will continue into the late evening and give us some cooler and drier weather, relatively speaking, over the rest of next week. BUT I WILL SAY THAT THE RAIN THAT’S LIKELY TO HAVE THIS AFTERNOON IS GOING TO BE VERY GOOD. WE NEED THE RAIN. IT HAS BEEN SUCH A HOT AND DRY PERIOD OF WEATHER FOR US THAT MANY OF US ARE EXPECTING VERY DRY CONDITIONS AS WELL, BUT YESTERDAY’S RAIN AND STORMS, ALTHOUGH PRETTY OCCURRENCIES FOR MOST OF US, WERE CERTAINLY A WELCOME CHANGE AS WE MOVE ON INTO THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. SPOTATED RAIN AND STORMS WILL DEVELOP. THAT WILL COME WITH THE HEAT AND HUMIDITY OUTSIDE FEELING MORE LIKE 100 DEGREES. AND THAT WILL JUST HELP TO EXTEND SOME OF THESE RAIN AND STORMS. SO WE’LL TAKE A CLEARER LOOK AT THE TIMING OF THESE STORMS RIGHT NOW AND WE’LL LOOK AT THE TEMPERATURES FROM HERE. PEYTON, THANKS. SYDNEY, WE HAVE BREAKING NEWS FROM LAURENS COUNTY WHERE A PERSON DIED IN A FIRE ACCIDENT. POLICE OFFICERS SAY THIS WAS YESTERDAY AFTERNOON JUST AFTER 5:30 ON INTERSTATE 385 AT MILE MARK 13. THEY SAY A CAR AND AN SUV WERE BOTH HEADING SOUTH WHEN THE CAR COLLIDED WITH THE SUV. THE SUV THEN GOES OFF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SMASHES INTO A RAILING, POLICE OFFICERS SAY. THE DRIVER OF THE SUV DIED AT THE SCENE AND THREE PEOPLE IN THAT CAR WERE INJURED AND TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. WE DO NOT KNOW HOW THEY ARE DOING AT THIS TIME. THE CHRISTIAN HAS NOT YET RELEASED THE NAME OF THE DECEASED PERSON BUT WE ARE WORKING TO LEARN MORE. AND THE EASLEY POLICE ARE ASKING FOR YOUR HELP IN LOOKING FOR SUSPECTS TAMPERING WITH MAILBOXES. POLICE SAY SEVERAL PASSENGERS OF THIS NISSAN ALTIMA HAVE TAMPERED WITH MAILBOXES AROUND TOWN ON PATIO DRIVE AT PEARL DRIVE AND OTHER STREETS. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION IS ASKED TO CONTACT EASLEY POLICE. AND NOW WE COME TO THE OLYMPIC GAMES WHERE THE MEN’S GYMNASTICS TEAM IS READY TO GO TO PARIS WHILE NOAH LYLES OFFICIALLY HAS TO DO DOUBLE WORK AFTER HIS LAST WIN. MARK BARGER HAS THE DETAILS AND REACTIONS TO THE OLYMPIC SPORTS COMMITTEES ON SATURDAY. TOWNVILLE KENNEY SAYS “CATCH ME IF YOU CAN” AND THE OLYMPIC SPORTS COMMITTEE IN THE HUNDREDS SAW THE CHALLENGE. HE IS OFFICIALLY OFFICIAL TO PARIS. HE RAN THE FASTEST TIME IN THE WORLD THIS YEAR TO OVERTAKE KENNY BEDNAREK AND SET THE STAGE FOR A MULTI-MEDAL CHANCE IN PARIS. THE USA IS THE USA. WE TAKE NOTHING, LIKE WE GIVE NOTHING THEY CAN TAKE FROM US. NOAH LYLES AND KENNY BEDNAREK TAKE ON THIRD PLACE ARIAN KNIGHTON IN THE WOMEN’S FINAL ON THE ROAD TO PARIS. GABBY THOMAS IS IN THE LEAD. SHE WON BRONZE IN TOKYO. NOW GABBY THOMAS HAS HER SIGHTS ON GOLD IN PARIS AFTER FINISHING BRITTANY BROWN FAST AND WINNING THE 200. IT’S INCREDIBLE. I KNEW I HAD TO FINISH TODAY AND THIS IS THE FIRST STEP AND IN PARIS THERE WASN’T A GOLD MEDAL WITHOUT MAKING THE TEAM TODAY SO I’M JUST OVERJOYED. MACKENZIE LONG FOUND THIRD BUT THE 100-METRE CHAMPION SHA’CARRI RICHARDSON FOUND FOURTH. THAT MEANS SHE WILL MISS THE 200 IN PARIS AT THE MEN’S GYMNASTICS TRIAL. SOME PEOPLE SAY HE’S A LITTLE SET-UP. HE’S NOT SET-UP. IF YOU CAN PROVE IT, FREDERICK, RICHARD HAS PROVEN IT. HE WINS THE ALL-ROUND COMPETITION AND ARRIVED AS THE HEADLINER OF A MEN’S GYMNASTICS TEAM. I’M LOOKING FOR HARDWARE. I DON’T KNOW WHICH. WHICH BRONZE, SILVER, GOLD. WHICH? IT WILL BE, BUT I KNOW THERE WILL BE ONE. AND WE WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET THERE. ALSO 2021 OLYMPICIAN BRODY MALONE MADE THE TEAM AFTER HAVING KNEE SURGERY 16 MONTHS AGO. PAUL JUDAH IS ONE OF THREE OLYMPICIANS COMPETING FOR THE FIRST TIME, ALONG WITH ASHER HONG AND STEVEN PETRACEK. THEY WILL BE GOING FOR THE FIRST TEAM MEDAL IN MEN’S GYMNASTICS SINCE 2008. MARK BARGER, NBC NEWS. AND BACK TO SOME LOCAL NEWS, A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION OFFERED SOME FREE SWIMMING LESSONS IN MALDEN YESTERDAY. AQUA ANGELS HELD A FREE WATER SAFETY CLINIC DESIGNED AS AN INTRODUCTION TO SWIMMING FOR ALL AGES. IT INCLUDED SOME LECTURES AND CPR TRAINING, AND EVERYONE WAS PROVIDED WITH A SWIM CAP, GOGGLES AND MORE TO PREPARE THEM FOR SUCCESS. THE MAJORITY OF OUR PARTICIPANTS COME FROM HISTORICALLY MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES THAT HAVE NOT HAD OR MAYBE NEVER WILL HAVE ACCESS TO THE RESOURCES WE PROVIDE. SO WE JUST TRY TO BE A LIGHT IN THE AREA THAT LET PEOPLE KNOW WE’RE HERE TO HELP THEM. IF YOU WANT TO TAKE SWIM LESSONS, THE AQUA ANGELS OFFER SWIM LESSONS YEAR ROUND. AND IN DOWNTOWN GREENVILLE, A MOVEMENT OF PRIDE TURNED INTO HOSTILITY. YESTERDAY WAS Supposed to Be The BLACK PRIDE MARCH AND FESTIVAL CELEBRATING THE BLACK LGBTQ COMMUNITY. THERE WERE DEMONSTRATIONS AND CONFLICTS. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE AN EVENT, WE WERE TOLD, OF CELEBRATION AND UNITY, FOR THE WHOLE COMMUNITY. WE WERE TOLD THAT THERE WERE OVER 100 VENDORS PLANNED FOR THE DAY. FOOD, DRINKS, MERCHANDISE. INSTEAD IT WAS DESIGNED THAT WAY. WE WILL OUTPARE YOU AND IT REALLY, HONESTLY, MAKES US MORE FUN TO COME AND MAKE FUN OF YOU. THEY MAY THINK WE HATE THEM, BUT WE DON’T HATE THEM, BUT WE HATE THE SIN THAT IS DESTROYING THEIR LIVES. AND THAT WAS YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. LAST NIGHT WAS THE OFFICIAL UPSTATE BLACK PRIDE AFTER-PARTY AT THE JUDSON MILLS SOCIAL INNOVATION CENTER AND THE CITY OF SIMPSONVILLE IS HOSTING ITS FREE ANNUAL 4TH OF JULY CONCERT TONIGHT. SIMPLY FREEDOM FEST STARTS TONIGHT AT 6:00 PM AT THE CNB AMPHITHEATER. PARKING NOW OPENS AT 4:00 PM. GATES OPEN AT 5:30 PM. IF I WERE YOU, I WOULD GET THERE EARLY BECAUSE THE GATES WILL CLOSE WHEN THE VENUE IS FULLY EQUIPPED. THERE WILL BE FOOD AND DRINKS ON SITE. GRAMMY-NOMINATED BAND SMASH MOUTH IS HEADLINER FOR THIS EVENT, AND THE NIGHT WILL END WITH FIREWORKS. AND LATER IN THE MORNING, WE CONTINUE OUR FOUR WAYS WE WIN SERIES, JUST FOR THE RECORD, WITH A DISCUSSION ON CHILD CARE. OUR NIGEL ROBERTSON SPEAKS WITH LEADERS FROM UNITED WAY, GREENVILLE COUNTY FIRST STEPS, AND THE INSTITUTE FOR CHILD SUCCESS. THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF GREENVILLE COUNTY FIRST STEPS SAYS HIS ORGANIZATION OFFERS PROGRAMS FOR FAMILIES FROM BIRTH TO K4. IF WE CAN REDUCE THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN WHO USE THE EMERGENCY ROOM AS THEIR PRIMARY HEALTH CARE SOURCE, THEN EMERGENCY ROOM BEDS WILL BE FREED UP. WHEN YOU CAN NEED ONE, RIGHT? IF WE CAN ENSURE THAT FAMILIES READ TO THEIR CHILDREN AS INFANTS, THEN BY THE TIME THEY ARE 40, THEY WILL HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO BOOKS AND TO READING AND LANGUAGE. SO THE LEARNING CURVE WILL NOT BE AS STEEP FOR THEM WHEN THEY START KINDERGARTEN AT AGE FOUR. SO WE CAN MAKE IT EASIER FOR EVERYONE. YOU CAN JOIN IN THIS IN-DEPTH CONVERSATION ABOUT CHILD CARE IN GREENVILLE COUNTY THIS MORNING AT 11:30 AM. WATCH IT HERE ON WIFE FOUR AND STILL. DO NOT KEEP FOOD IN YOUR CAR. A BEAR BREAKS INTO A FAMILY’S MINIVAN AT A CAMPGROUND IN CALIFORNIA. IT’S ALL CAUGHT ON VIDEO. THAT STORY COMES NEXT. IT’S A NICE START BUT IT’S ALREADY VERY HOT AND GAY. NEXT I’LL BE RECORDING HOW OUR TEMPERATURES EVOLVE FROM HERE AND WHEN OUR NEXT DAY IS
