ST4 ALARM DAY: Increasing monsoon thunderstorms and rain showers | Weather

StormTracker 4 Alarm Day

STORMTRACKER 4 ALERT DAY — Today and tomorrow are ST4 ALERT DAYS due to increased monsoon storm activity. Tucson’s MPI is showing a 6-7 for today and tonight. Tomorrow’s MPI is also showing a 6.

The chance of monsoon thunderstorms and flash flooding will increase significantly this afternoon and evening and tomorrow. Tucson is showing a 6 on our Monsoon Forecast Index during the day before moving up to 7 tonight. The MPI also shows a 6 for Tucson tomorrow, making the risk of thunderstorms extremely high for the next two days.

The biggest risks are safety risks. A flood warning has been issued until 11pm tonight. A dust warning has been issued until 10pm tonight. Remember to turn around, don’t drown if you are driving and see flooding. High wind gusts can quickly reduce visibility to zero, so pull over, stay alive.

Storm chances will continue into the work week and last through July 4. Our latest models show an MPI of 2 for the 4th, so you’ll want to prepare for a potentially stormy Independence Day.

Increasing humidity and wind will cause temperatures to drop slightly over the next few days. We’ll see highs between 100 and 104 degrees Celsius over the next seven days.
