5 teenagers arrested in Greenwich car theft spree

Five people were arrested in Greenwich in connection with a motor vehicle theft investigation, according to local law enforcement.

On Wednesday, police received a notification of a vehicle theft incident on Scott Road. When officers arrived at the scene, they observed a BMW traveling south on North Street, following a stolen Honda Civic and leading a stolen Jeep Cherokee.

When they noticed the presence of patrol cars, all three stolen vehicles attempted to flee and turned onto a dead end street. Police quickly deployed tire deflation devices, which successfully immobilized the BMW and Honda. The occupants of these vehicles then fled on foot.

Efforts to stop the stolen Jeep also had an effect and caused the occupant to flee on foot.

K-9 units from Stamford, Norwalk and Westport were called in to assist in the search. In addition, law enforcement used a drone to locate the individuals hiding in the nearby woods.

Four juveniles under the age of 18, three from Danbury and one from Brookfield, were taken into custody along with 18-year-old Alex Gutama of Danbury.

The four juveniles were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Juvenile Court today. Gutama is expected in court on May 22.
