PRISON OFFICIALS SAY IT’S BECAUSE THEY DON’T HAVE THAT STAFF. THAT’S EIGHT FAILED INSPECTIONS IN A ROW SINCE 2020. THE REASONS ARE CLEANLINESS, LACK OF ON-SITE INSPECTIONS, BED BUGS AND MORE. THE PEOPLE’S COUNCIL FOR JUSTICE REFORM SAYS THE CHANGE MUST BE MADE. IT’S CLEAR WE NEED A COMPLETE LOCKDOWN TAKEOVER OF THIS FACILITY. DO NOT ALLOW INVESTIGATORS IN UNLESS THEY HAVE SOMETHING TO HIDE. WE HAVE TALKED TO THE COUNTY ABOUT IT. THEY SAID THEY HAD NOT ALLOWED INSPECTORS IN TO INSPECTION BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH STAFF ON DUTY. AND A STATEMENT, THEY SAY THEY WOULD BE HAPPY TO WORK WITH THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE INSPECTIONS. BUT THIS MUST BE DONE WITHOUT DISRUPTING STAFF AND RESIDENTS. WHEN UNANNOUNCED INSPECTORS ARE IN THE FACILITY THEY HAVE TO MAKE STAFFING AND SECURITY CHANGES TO ACCOMMODATE THEM. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SAYS ONE MISTAKE CAN BE A DEFICIENCY FOR A PERSON AND THEY DO THESE INSPECTIONS ANNUALLY FOR EACH PRISON AND THEY ARE ALWAYS UNANNOUNCED.
