Normani, 28, revealed she was looking forward to taking the stage at the BET Awards on Sunday.

However, she sustained an injury during rehearsals and was unable to take the stage.

“I am more frustrated and disappointed than anyone, believe me,” she began.

“I wanted to come out here and give you guys an update and let you know that I had a really bad accident while rehearsing for BET and I injured myself.

“I am normally good at persevering under all circumstances, but unfortunately due to my doctor’s instructions, I am unable to perform this feat.”

The former Fifth Harmony member continued, “I really wanted to give you my best on stage, but performing would delay my healing.

“I have gone through my process and done my best to understand my feelings about this. I am devastated and hate to feel like a disappointment to you, but I need to focus on my recovery now.

“There is nothing I wanted more than to perform for you and to get back to doing what I love most – BEING ON STAGE.

“Thank you for your understanding. I send my love to BET for giving me and all the other amazing black women this opportunity. This is definitely NOT how I imagined this weekend would go, but trust me, I will be supporting everyone from home tonight.”

“I’m sorry guys and I love you so much,” she concluded.

Normani did not provide any further details about her injury, but posted a photo of it.

She shared a snapshot showing her walking on crutches.

Her knee was wrapped in a bandage and she wore a boot on her foot.

Fifth Harmony Albums

Fifth Harmony was one of the most popular girl groups in the world. The band consisted of Camila Cabello, Ally Brooke, Lauren Jauregui, Dinah Jane and Normani Kordei. In March 2018, they took an indefinite hiatus and never reunited. Here are the albums they released together:

  • Reflection (2015)
  • Fifth Harmony (2017)
  • 27.07. (2016)
  • Better Together (2013)
  • Together (2013)

BET MISCONTROL

Fans flocked to a music-related online thread to discuss the devastating news.

Some expressed their disappointment, while others showed sympathy for Normani.

“My goodness this woman has had a rough time lately,” one person posted.

“She just doesn’t get a break. That must be so frustrating,” commented another.

“Damn this sucks because this is something she needed. Hopefully she gets more opportunities to perform soon,” another shared.

“No offense, if I were Normani, after all the beating she has taken over the last six years and continues to take, I would be sitting on stage in a wheelchair doing damn kickflips,” wrote a fourth fan.

“A Normani performance would have sucked. Oh well. Next time,” posted a fifth.

ALBUM EDITIONS

The news of Normani’s cancelled performance comes after the release of her debut solo album Dopamine.

Fans waited years for the album to be released, only to find that it underperformed on the charts, as Forbes noted.

Normani’s first full solo album debuted at number 91 on the Billboard 200.

The album sold just over 12,000 copies in its first full run.

According to Luminate, only 2,000 of these were pure purchases.

With these numbers, Normani’s album cannot reach the top album sales charts, which only have 50 places.

Her album is the tenth lowest debut of the week on the Billboard 200.

Normani had some success as a solo artist.

She landed her first hit in 2018 together with Khalid for Love Lies.

The song entered the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

In 2019, she again had great success with “Dancing With a Stranger,” recorded with Sam Smith, and her own song “Motivation.”

The only song on Dopamine to enter the Hot 100 was “Wild Side” featuring Cardi B.

The song peaked at number 14 in 2021.

This is just the latest example of a long streak of bad luck.

In May, Normani was mocked and accused of running his own fan account.
