Israel continues its attacks on the Gaza Strip, causing heavy civilian casualties

The Israeli military continues its attacks on large parts of the Gaza Strip, causing numerous casualties among the civilian population.

On Sunday, Israeli forces carried out operations in the central and southern parts of the Gaza Strip, in addition to the northern region they claimed to have under their control.

The Israelis said they had “eliminated several terrorists” and “destroyed terror tunnels” in southern Rafah as a result of their “targeted, intelligence-based operational activity”.

Local Palestinian media reported on Sunday that six civilians, including children, were killed in Israeli air strikes in Rafah.

They also said there were civilian casualties in other areas of Rafah as Israeli forces continued their artillery shelling and other heavy attacks.

On Saturday, the Palestinian Red Crescent announced that it had completely evacuated its makeshift administrative building in Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip. The society said the Israeli attacks posed a threat to the lives of its staff, indicating that the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian enclave is becoming increasingly dire.

The US media company Axios reported that the US government has presented new wording for parts of the proposed hostage-taking and ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in recent days.

However, a Hamas leader said at a press conference on Saturday that there was nothing really new in the negotiations.

The President reiterated Hamas’ position that it is ready to positively accept any formula that guarantees a permanent ceasefire and Israel’s comprehensive withdrawal from Gaza.
