Fundraiser for the family of a four-year-old Fort Wayne girl killed in Evansville

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – An upcoming event in Fort Wayne is raising funds for the family of a 4-year-old Fort Wayne girl who was found unconscious and later died in Evansville earlier this month.

A fundraiser featuring a car show, food, a DJ and fireworks by Groovy Fireworks to benefit the family of Octavia Aquino will be held on July 3 at 4726 Parnell Avenue starting at 5 p.m.

Octavia Aquino, a four-year-old girl from Fort Wayne, was found unconscious in an Evansville apartment in mid-June.

A march of honor was held for Octavia Aquino at an Evansville hospital, where she later died and donated her viable organs to other children in need.

Her mother, 23-year-old Destiny F. Rhoades, is charged with neglect of a dependent person resulting in death, while her boyfriend, 16-year-old Christian T. Gonzalez, is charged with murder in connection with her death.

According to an autopsy conducted by the Vanderburgh County Medical Examiner’s Office, Octavia Aquino died of blunt force trauma to the head and neck.
