Community gathers to remember 15-year-old killed in police shooting – WHIO TV 7 and WHIO Radio

According to a previous report from News Center 7, Dayton Police officers responded to a “vacant house/street party issue” in the 500 block of Negley Place around 8 p.m.

As officers approached, a man allegedly had a gun. Family members identified the man as 15-year-old Brian Moody.

Dayton Police Chief Kamran Afzal told News Center 7’s Malik Patterson that the man ran away from officers, then turned around and allegedly pointed a gun at them.

Two officers fired at the man, who was later taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

Community members said Moody and other teenagers had met for a fun night and were planning to go to a bowling alley before the shooting occurred.

Shondale Atkinson said she witnessed the incident.

“He told the young man, ‘If you run away, I’ll shoot you.’ And before they knew it, they looked up and the cop shot him in the back. And then another cop jumped out and started shooting too,” Atkinson said.

Neither the Dayton Police Department nor the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office have confirmed that Moody was killed in the shooting.
