Several US military bases in Europe have reached heightened alert status, according to US authorities

The alert level of the Force Protection Condition “Charlie” was introduced.

As ABC News confirmed, several US military bases across Europe are currently on heightened alert.

According to two US officials, the Force Protection Condition (FPCON) “Charlie” alert level was introduced over the weekend.

According to the U.S. Army, Charlie is the second highest alert level and is in effect when an incident occurs or intelligence is received indicating that some form of terrorist act or attack on personnel or facilities is likely.

In a statement to reporters, the US European Command said it was “continuously assessing a variety of factors” related to security.

“For operational security reasons, we will not go into specific measures, but we remain vigilant,” EUCOM wrote, among other things.

The development was first reported in Stars and Stripes, an independent military publication.
