Terrorists planning an attack on polling stations arrested before election day

TEHRAN: Iran’s deputy interior minister said on Sunday that the country’s security and intelligence services had successfully foiled terrorist attacks aimed at disrupting the June 28 presidential election before voting even began.

In an interview with Fars News Agency, Majid Mirahmadi shed light on the enemies’ strategies during the recent presidential elections in Iran.

Mirahmadi revealed that anti-Iranian groups and factions had developed several strategies to disrupt the electoral process. “Their first strategy was to discourage voter participation by promoting a ban on voting, and their second strategy was to infiltrate candidates’ election headquarters,” he said, highlighting the opponents’ efforts to create false polarization and deepen societal divisions.

Furthermore, Mirahmadi stressed that the enemies had planned to raise the issue of electoral fraud and repeat incidents from the past. “The last and fifth strategy of the enemies and opponents was to raise the issue of electoral fraud and repeat the bitter incident of 2009,” he explained.

In addition to these challenges, Mirahmadi also addressed the ongoing threat posed by terrorist groups during the elections. He stated that these groups had planned to create fear through terrorist actions and deter people from participating in the electoral process. “They tried to turn the elections into a widespread security challenge by implementing hard and soft strategies,” he added.

However, Mirahmadi calmed the situation by stating that thanks to effective intelligence operations, several terrorist elements that had been trained and prepared for disruptive actions during the elections were arrested before they could carry out their plans. “Before the elections began, some of the terrorist elements that had been sent to the country, received the necessary training and were prepared for terrorist actions during the elections were arrested by the anonymous soldiers of Imam Zaman (a term used in Iran for intelligence services), and fortunately, the terrorist movements suffered a complete defeat,” he affirmed.
