“Vandalism” incident involving school litter in Oxfordshire is deemed an accident

A school in Oxfordshire has asked pupils to delete photos of a “serious vandalism incident” involving feces and not share them online.

Daniel Gibbons, head of Our Lady’s Abingdon, said parents had been contacted about the incident.

Mr Gibbons confirmed initial investigations had suggested the incident may have been accidental and “there was no evidence to suggest it was deliberate vandalism”.

“As an independent school that prides itself on being a small and supportive environment with high expectations for all students, vandalism is rare and any act, no matter how minor or even accidental, is considered serious,” he told the Oxford Mail .

“We immediately contacted parents to make them aware that the school was addressing the issue.”

The Oxford Mail has seen the email sent to parents and guardians in which Mr Gibbons suggested images of the school library incident may have been shared on social media.

He told parents that students had been asked to delete all images and that he had also spoken to students about the seriousness of the vandalism – it was a crime for which students could be expelled.

No students were excluded as a result of the incident and the matter is no longer being investigated internally.

Our Lady’s Abingdon is a Catholic independent co-educational secondary school on Radley Road.
