One dead in shooting at apartment complex in Washington City

WASHINGTON CITY, Utah (ABC4) — A man was shot and killed early Sunday morning in a Washington City apartment complex, according to Washington City Police.

Just before 2 a.m. on June 30, police received reports of gunshots at 20 North Red Trail in Washington City. Officers arrived on the scene and entered an apartment in the complex. Upon entering, officers found a man lying on the ground with gunshot wounds.

Officers attempted to save the victim’s life until medical personnel arrived and took over. The man was transported to St. George Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The suspect was reportedly seen leaving the scene on surveillance cameras at the apartment complex. Police were able to identify the suspect as a juvenile male.

Officers found the suspect and arrested him shortly before 7 a.m.

“The Washington City Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family. We would also like to thank everyone who assisted with this incident and the local citizens,” said a press release from the Washington City Police Department.

“This case remains under investigation and no further information will be released at this time. We thank the Washington City Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance, Metro SWAT Team and our Consolidated Dispatch Center for assisting with this incident.”
